Articulation is the process by which sounds, syllables, and words are formed.
When a person produces sounds, syllables, or words incorrectly so listeners do not understand what is being said.
It may result from physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy, cleft palate or hearing loss, or may be related to other structural problems in the mouth such as dental problems. However, most articulation problems occur in the absence of any obvious physical disability. Many times, speech articulation disorders are the result of delay in development.
Early intervention is important to remediate speech to prevent habitual patterns from forming and to improve speech intelligibility.
