Hours:Summer 2010Temporary/SeasonalDescription:Camp Program Assistants are responsible to assist in developing and facilitating activities for campers in cabin groups within the respective program areas. Activities include archery/riflery, arts and crafts, canoeing, computer, drama, horseback riding, music, photography, nature studies, sailing, and swimming. Position prepares, leads and evaluates programs and maintains inventory necessary for program area. Assists Camp Counselors as needed. Courage Camp Program Staff provide exceptional quality outdoor and indoor experiences for campers with a focus on Courage Center’s mission of empowering people with physical disabilities to reach for their full potential in every aspect of life.
Major Responsibilities:
Requirements: 1. Must be 16 years old at time of camp 2. Able to plan and lead activities for campers with disabilities 3. Experience, competence and sensitivity in working with people with disabilities and people of diverse races and cultures is a plus 4. Must have the ability to lift campers in care situations and push wheelchairs to participate in camp activities 5. A sincere desire to work with people with disabilities 6. Strong organizational and communication skills, American Sign Language ability a plusCommunications:An individual is expected to facilitate communications with clients, staff and visitors in all methods available to them: American Sign Language, Oral English, written communication and use of communication devices.
Physical Demands: 1. The ability to assist with lifting a client and push wheelchairs2. The physical stamina and ability to work and participate in all camp activities for a sustained period of time.
