Camp Program Specialists are hired to work in the following areas.  Please specify on your application which area(s) you are most interested in:

  • Arts & Crafts
  • Camp Craft
  • Horseback Riding

  • Recreation

Description:
Camp Program Specialists are responsible for developing and facilitating activities for campers in cabin groups within the respective program areas. Position prepares, leads and evaluates programs and maintains inventory necessary for program area. Assists Camp Counselors as needed. Courage Center Camp Program Staff provide exceptional quality outdoor and indoor experiences for campers with a focus on Courage Center’s mission of empowering people with physical disabilities to reach for their full potential in every aspect of life.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitor setup and staffing of program area
  • Maintain inventory and equipment in program area
  • Assist in training others in using equipment in program area
  • Participate in camp activities as available
  • Ensure program area is clean and organized
  • Fill in as camp counselor when needed
  • Ensure safety and satisfaction of campers and other participants at all times

Requirements: 

1. Experience, competence and sensitivity in working with people with physical disabilities and people of diverse races and cultures is highly valuable.
2. Be at least 18 years old
3. Strong organizational and communication skills, American Sign Language ability a plus
4. Ability to keep accurate records and organize logistics of program area

Communications:
An individual is expected to facilitate communications with clients, staff and visitors in all methods available to them:  American Sign Language, Oral English, written communication and use of communication devices.

Physical Demands: 
1. The ability to assist with lifting a client and push wheelchairs
2. The physical stamina and ability to work and participate in all camp activities for a sustained period of time.

Work Environment: 
1. Group living environment
2. Shared living and sleeping quarters
