Description:
Camp Counselors are responsible for camp planning and leading daily activities for campers.  Counselors are also accountable for camper wellness, safety, adjustment, welfare and growth while at camp.  Courage Camp Counselors provide exceptional quality outdoor and indoor experiences for campers with a focus on Courage Center’s mission of empowering people with physical disabilities to reach for their full potential in every aspect of life.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old at time of camp
  • Able to plan and lead activities for campers with disabilities
  • Experience, competence and sensitivity in working with people with disabilities and people of diverse races and cultures is a plus
  • Must have the ability to lift campers in care situations and push wheelchairs to participate in camp activities
  • A sincere desire to work with people with disabilities
  • Strong communication skills. 

Communications:
An individual is expected to facilitate communications with clients, staff and visitors in all methods available to them:  American Sign Language, Oral English, written communication and use of communication devices.

Physical Demands: 
1. The ability to assist with lifting a client and push wheelchairs
2. The physical stamina and ability to work and participate in all camp activities for a sustained period of time.

Work Environment: 
1. Group living environment
2. Shared living and sleeping quarters
