Coding Specialist - Golden Valley

Hours:
Full Time, 40 hours/week

Description:
The Coding & Billing Specialist is primarily responsible to code physician visits, follow up on physician claims, provide coding education to physicians and to complete auditing as needed.


Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Achieving maximum reimbursement for billable physician (including psychiatry) services.
  • Reviewing physician documentation, coding the physician visit charge tickets utilizing current ICD-9 and CPT codes according to AMA guidelines.
  • Collecting payments on opened physician visit claims, challenging payers as necessary to ensure maximize eimbursement, including researching, correcting, and resubmitting rejected claims and resolving claim iscrepancies; following all contracts or payers rules and regulations to ensure compliance when submitting claims. 
  • Maintaining current knowledge of all coding updates and insurances, including special guidelines as dictated by payer, providing coding education to physicians and support staff regarding documentation guidelines and performing regular chart audits.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge such as usually possessed by an individual with a minimum of three to five years experience in Physician Coding and Accounts Receivable experience in a hospital or large multi-service agency. 
  • Experience in Medicare or large Group Health Plan and MN Medical Assistance billing. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and independent problem solving abilities. 
  • Ability to build strong rapport with consumers, payers, and staff to resolve payment issues. 
  • Ability to manage workflow in an organized manner to ensure work is completed by necessary deadlines. 
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, CCI Edits, Medicare LMRP’s, LCD’s, Coder Desk Reference. 
  • Basic PC skills, use of Word and Excel is desired. 
  • Experience, competence, and sensitivity in working with people with physical disabilities and people of diverse races and cultures is preferred.


    Certifications Required:

    Coding Certification preferred
