Purpose of this job: To provide a variety of sports and recreation programs to challenge and motivate participants that will result in increased self confidence and independence, improved health and wellness, and positive identity for people with disabilities.
1. Plan, implement, evaluate, lead and promote quality sport and recreation opportunities that help participants gain self-confidence, independence and leadership skills. Working with supervisor, coordinate and provide a variety of quality sports and recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities.
2. Provide on-going leadership and training to Sports and Recreation volunteers and communicate pertinent information to them.
3. Represent Courage Center as a resource to participants and their families, providing information on improving quality of life through participation in community programs and services. Be a resource to the community and other organizations on disability issues. Establish strong relationships with professionals, outside media and community to promote programs. Present Courage Center Sports and Recreation programs at conferences, colleges, schools, etc.
4. Maintain inventory, repair equipment and organize storage room as needed. Maintain accurate and organized program files.
5. Administer program application processes to ensure that proper information is shared in a timely manner. Ensure registration information and fees are passed on to clerical assistant.
6. Assist in developing marketing materials, including the class catalog, brochures, and program flyers.
7. Support fundraising special events including publicity, event logistics, documentation of attendance and evaluations. Interact and build relationships with donors and volunteers at fundraising events.
Required: Experience working with people with physical disabilities or vision impairments. Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Word. Extremely strong, demonstrated organizational skills. Able to work independently. Enthusiastic and able to motivate others.
Preferred: BA in adaptive physical education or special education or related field with a minimum of three years experience working with children and adults with physical disabilities.
