Purpose of this job:  The development officer for program funding and evaluation is a member of the Courage Center Development Team – working closely with the Research and Outcomes Team.  The Development Officer for Program Funding and Evaluation is responsible for planning, executing and tracking giving programs designed to build partnerships with foundations and government institutions, taking initiative to seek out new funding sources.  This position will manage a portfolio of strategic foundation donors and prospects, and will seek support from national and government funding sources.  In addition, this position will submit proposals in support of capital campaign initiatives and the Courage Center research agenda.

Major Job Responsibilities


Cultivate relationships with local and national foundations and government entities, to raise funds in support of Courage Center objectives.
  

    1. Work with grants administrator to maintain calendar of grant deadlines and develop and monitor grant requests based on Courage Center’s needs and funder’s interests.
    2. Provide strategic leadership and systems development to the Grants Writer and Grants Administrator and strategic prospect research volunteer(s) to secure foundation and government funding.  
    3. Analyze current contribution sources, conduct prospect research and develop strategy to cultivate relationships with foundations and solicit funds.


Work closely with Courage Center managers to identify priority programs, projects and capital needs to manage the grants process.

    1. Provide leadership to the monthly internal cross-departmental Grants Review Committee.  
    2. Engage program directors and managers in the grant making process by meeting collaboratively to identify and discuss program needs, prospective funding sources and staff involvement with gathering information, site visits and required reporting.  
    3. Manage grant reporting and documentation to ensure efficient use of grant funds and timely reporting to funders.
    4. Oversee tracking of activity and prepare status report to funding organization for each grant received.


Support an organization-wide research agenda that evaluates outcomes, satisfaction rates and processes.  

    1. Work with the Public Policy and Research team to support and maintain systems for collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting data on program outcomes and customer satisfaction.
    2. Process RFPs and coordinate the internal distribution of submitted proposals.
    3. Develop grant submissions with strong evaluation plans.


General Management Responsibilities.
      

    1. Monitor, evaluate and report on periodic progress toward assigned goals.
    2. Provides analyses of the previous year's contributions against plan, potential growth areas, and increased support needed in the coming year.
    3. Participate in the annual budget preparation for fund development.
    4. Contribute to the development of a professional, cooperative and results-oriented team spirit on the Grants Team and in interactions with other staff members of Courage Center.
    5. Support the mission of Courage Center by demonstrating a personal commitment to the culture of philanthropy.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience

Master's degree in outcomes, business or non profit preferred.  Five to seven years experience in fund development that includes a demonstrated track record of success with cultivation, solicitation, acquisition, and stewardship of gifts and grants from foundations and government institutions; 3-5 years experience in outcomes and data research, or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge.  Healthcare and/or clinical background and supervisory experience desired.  

License/Certifications

Valid drivers license required.
