Courage Center’s ABLE program has acquired the Giger MD Therapy device and ABLE staff underwent training with Adrian Giger, the device’s founder and designer.
The Giger MD is the culmination of 25 years of development in Switzerland. The device uses harmonious movements in coordinated dynamic equilibrium. This results in all four limbs moving together in a synchronized pattern to stimulate the nervous system in a manner similar to walking. The device is designed to provide the best possible physiological position, lying flat or nearly flat, to lighten the load on one's spine. By unloading the spine an individual is able to stay in constant motion while eliminating the effects of gravity. As a result clients are able to actively or passively cycle in a manner that reduces fatigue to both client and staff.
ABLE is Courage Center's Activity-Based Locomotor Exercise program for people living with paralysis or neurological conditions. It promotes improvements in overall health, fitness, strength and quality of life. ABLE is based on revolutionary locomotor movement training, and includes fitness activities that challenge muscles below the level of injury.
