HR Operations Specialist - Payroll

Hours:
Monday - Friday, Days
40 hours/week

Description:
Position works closely with HR Operations Manager and the HR team to facilitate all aspects of the payroll process ensuring the smooth function of payroll and HRIS systems as well as timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll from start to finish.  In addition, this position serves as the technical resource and customer service representative in the resolution of all payroll related and payroll system inquiries.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the integrity of data contained in HRIS/Payroll and Time and Attendance database. Enter all employee data into HR/Payroll systems. Processes employee information changes to meet payroll deadlines, ensure appropriate benefits eligibility and processing and to ensure the HRIS system is accurately maintained. Process biweekly payroll.
  2. Analyze, calculate and enter federal and state tax levies, child support order deductions, garnishments, etc. Review calculate, input and audit employee tax data and other employee withholding data.
  3. Responsible for effective and accurate operation of electronic timekeeper system so that information is tracked for accurate payroll transmission. Respond to time management questions and issues so that software is running efficiently and the needs of all employees and managers are met.
  4. Insures appropriate authorizations and files for pay and withholding information are secured.
  5. Responsible for all year end payroll and HRIS processes. Develops year end process task list and timelines.
  6. Respond to government verification of employment questions and written requests ensuring proper authorization to release information.
  7. Develops reports and queries in to meet organizational needs from HRIS/Payroll and Time and Attendance systems. Integral member of Human Resource process change management and system testing.
  8. Ensures compliance with all applicable legal requirements and accreditation standards. Ensures that all department activities are conducted in a manner that is consistent with Courage Center’s Compliance Program, including its Code of Conduct.

Education and/or Experience:

  1. 5 years of experience in payroll processing and a BA preferred. Experience with Kronos systems a plus.
  2. In-depth knowledge of payroll, HR and benefit laws and regulations. (Some examples include wage hour, FMLA, COBRA, EEO)
  3. Must be proficient in MS Office Software (Excel, Word and Outlook). Access database experience helpful.
  4. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and perform several projects at one time, to manage process and organize high volume of work and data with strong orientation to accomplishing projects.
  5. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; ability to apply systems thinking to reduce inefficiencies in the workflow process.

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations:
 
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Professional Human Resources (PHR) desirable.

Develops and maintains effective systems to organize and maintain numerous types and amounts of information and to meet specific deadlines. Identifying opportunities to streamline workflow and HRIS program problems, recommending and resolving barriers to efficiencies and greater utilization of technology to delivering HR services. Develops and runs queries and reports.
