Courage Center serves some of the most complex and expensive individuals in the state Medical Assistance program. We’re highly skilled at managing complex and chronic medical conditions and disabilities.
Providers like Courage Center want to serve individuals with complex needs. But unless we get paid fairly by the state (and today we lose, on average, $800 per year on every Medical Assistance client) our programs will change. We can’t afford to lose millions every year.
Rehabilitation services (physical, occupational and speech therapies) are high-value, low cost services. They help people regain independence, maximize their ability to function, and minimize costs over their lifetimes.
Most people who need and receive rehabilitation services avoid further loss of function or the development of secondary medical complications, which cost far more money in the long run.
Providing a safety net for our most vulnerable citizens is a core role of state government. People with disabilities need many different government-funded services to be successful.
Write a letter to the EditorStudies show that people read the letters to the editor section more than they read the editorials by journalists. Plus, letters to the editor are widely read by political and community leaders to keep in touch with public opinion about current issues in their communities. This is why it’s critical that they hear from the disability community on a regular basis.
