Occupational Therapy for Children

Therapy in the Spirit of Childhood

Childhood is hopeful, joyful and ever new.  The spirit, playfulness and the energy of childhood creates the environment in which our pediatric occupational therapists work.

We view the child, the child’s environment and the interaction between the two in a holistic way,  analyzing the child’s functional performance within different environments to identify the child’s strength and limitations. We also work with the family and caregivers to optimize outcomes. The areas occupational therapists address may include all or some of the following:

  • Self-care skills (feeding, grooming and hygiene, dressing and functional mobility)
  • Play, school, and work activities
  • Sensory processing skills
  • Upper extremity strength, coordination and control
  • Cognition, attention, memory and executive function skills
  • Psychosocial skills
  • Assistive technology

At Courage Center, we want children to be able to perform everyday activities in the best possible way.  We use techniques such as sensory-motor treatment, therapeutic listening, neurological developmental approach, motor control training, CIMT, SOS feeding approach and computer adaptations. In addition, therapeutic adaptations and home programs are incorporated as needed.
