Physical Therapy for Children

Our pediatric physical therapists help children develop gross motor skills to improve functional abilities and independence. This includes assessing and making recommendations for therapeutic equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and orthotics in order to help a child interact with his world.

Improving abilities and independence

Our treatment plan is tailored for the specific needs of each child and may address:

  • Gross motor skill development
  • Balance and coordination skills
  • Walking and mobility skills
  • Trunk and extremity strength and control
  • Fitness and aquatics (pool therapy and swimming)
  • Orthotic consultation
  • Wheelchair and therapeutic equipment consultation

We use a functional approach to physical therapy. We want children to be able to perform everyday activities in the best possible way.

We use many different techniques to help facilitate the best performance, including manual facilitation, the MOVE technique, the neurological developmental treatment (NDT) approach, postural restoration, neuromuscular electrical stimulation and play.

We also have innovative new therapies such as Intensive Therapy and IM Gait Mate available.

In addition our physical therapists work with families to educate them in home activities to enhance therapy sessions.
