Receptive Language Disorders

Early Therapy Can Address Comprehension Issues

Receptive language is what we see and hear and the information we take in. It is the comprehension of information.

Receptive language skills begin as early as birth and get stronger as more skills are gained. A receptive language disorder occurs when a person has trouble understanding language, including following directions or recognizing vocabulary, common objects, action verbs, descriptive concepts, categories, etc. Early speech and language intervention can help children be more successful with reading, writing, schoolwork and interpersonal relationships.

If you have concerns with your child’s language development, please call our experienced therapists for recommendations. You may also refer to the link below regarding typical milestones. Please keep in mind that just because your child has not accomplished one skill within an age range does not mean your child has a disorder.
