Inpatient Experience

Rehabilitation is different from acute care

If you have a spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury or other disability and are considering inpatient rehabilitation at Courage Center, you need to be aware that rehabilitation is different from an acute-care hospital setting.

The purpose of the rehabilitation process is to teach clients and families to take care of themselves. It's also a time to explore a whole range of possibilities, including driver's assessment and training, the use of assistive technology and a wide variety of sports. That's why clients are expected to work very hard at Courage Center.

You'll have input into your programs and schedules, but you will be expected to follow physician and treatment orders, adhere to treatment schedules, comply with educational requirements, participate in outings and take full advantage of all the resources Courage Center has to offer.

Please Note: Clients are responsible for checking with their insurance carriers to see if a referral is necessary for any service that is not specifically included in the list of services for which referrals are not required. For more information, see our Admissions and Referrals section.
