Services for teens include therapy, sports and recreation, drivers assessment and training, vocational services, college preview camp and youth leadership academy. Services of special interest to teens include:

Medical Rehabilitation Services

Youth Leadership Academy (763.520.0558)
This intense youth leadership program prepares motivated teens with disabilities to take on leadership roles in their community.  Participants develop leadership skills through service learning or advocacy projects. Abilities gained in the yearlong program result in increased self-confidence and greater independence.

College Preview Camp (763.520.0504)
College bound teens with physical disabilities can learn computer and internet technology and other college skills through the DO IT program at Camp Courage. Upon completion, participants find themselves more prepared for the challenges and changes of college.

Vocational Services (763.520.0564)
Courage Center Vocational Services assist in identifying career strengths and challenges. Teens benefit from our strong partnerships with academic and employment resources that can help bridge the gap between school and career.

Driver Assessment and Training (1.888.846.8253)
Our driver assessment and training is another way of increasing independence for young people. Courage Center training can help adolescents become safe and successful drivers.

Transition to Adulthood - Services Offered through Vocational Services (763.520.0564)
The teen years are exciting, challenging times for any young adult, but especially so for a teen with a disability. Courage Center offers a variety of services to help smooth the transition from teenage years into adulthood and college or the work world.

Transitional Rehabilitation Program (763.520.0307)
This short-term inpatient rehabilitation program serves people with congenital disabilities including spina bifida, cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy as well as those with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and stroke. Participants live at Courage Center for an average of five months, working toward living independently in the community. While here, they may participate in therapy as well as career and driver’s assessment and training while learning more about themselves and their abilities.

Getting Started with Therapy

Children of all ages may be referred by parents, health care providers and community agencies.

Our Pediatric Care Navigator acts as case manager to outpatients from birth to 18 years who receive services at our Golden Valley or Burnsville locations. Services include client contact, evaluation scheduling and ongoing coordination of care with client, physician and team. This unique service gives Courage Center clients, with complex needs, a go-to person to assist them and the team, ensuring quality outcomes and client satisfaction. Please call 763-520-0494 or pedscarenavigator@couragecenter.org to speak with the Pediatric Care Navigator.

Courage Center is a participating provider with most health insurance plans, including medical assistance, and will work with you to answer questions regarding coverage. Please Note: Clients are responsible for checking with their insurance carriers to see if a referral is necessary for any service that is not specifically included in the list of services for which referrals are not required. See the Admissions page for details.
