New Vision Coach now available at Courage Center Forest Lake

New technology can improve visual function in children and adults

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 20, 2011 – Courage Center now offers new technology – Vision Coach – which can improve visual function for children and adults.

A large, interactive light board, Vision Coach is for use with people of all ages who have visual, attention and/or upper extremity impairments. At Courage Center Forest Lake, the technology is being used to improve function for people with limitations resulting from stroke, brain injury, amputation, spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, developmental delays and other neurological diagnoses. It is also used with children to improve visual attention, visual processing, reaction time, learning, coordination, reach and balance.

VISION COACH helps improve:

•         Eye skills (e.g. tracking, visual attention, anticipation)
•         Eye-hand coordination and reaction time
•         Peripheral visual awareness
•         Upper limb coordination

The new technology works by challenging the peripheral visual system. Speed in searching the peripheral visual field helps ensure safety in driving and sports. It is also used to treat motor impairments, to increase range of motion in the upper extremities, coordination and motor planning, and attention problems to improve both focus and multitasking.
