About Volunteering at Courage Center

1. How old do volunteers need to be?

We have volunteer opportunities for a range of ages. Volunteers between the ages of 10 and 13 need to partner with an adult to volunteer.  People 14 and older qualify as individual volunteers.  Some programs at Camp Courage, our Courage Rider program and our Ski and Snowboard program require someone to be 16 to be eligible.

2. How much time will I need to spend volunteering?

During your volunteer interview, placement is based on your skills, interests and availability matched with current needs.  We look for a minimum volunteer commitment of 20 hours, but that can be spread over a year. Many roles require a three-month commitment.

3. How often are the Volunteer Orientations held?

We offer volunteer orientations once a month at both our Golden Valley and Stillwater locations. Orientation times vary between evening and daytime sessions.

4. When do you need volunteers?

There are volunteer opportunities weekdays, evenings and weekends

5. Do you have volunteer opportunities that do not require a weekly commitment?

Yes, we have episodic volunteer opportunities such as sport and/or fundraising events and short-term projects.  Job sharing may also be possible in an ongoing role.

6. What kind of volunteer experience can I expect?

You can determine what type of volunteer experience you are looking for; working directly with clients, providing support services or helping at special events.

7. Do people live at Courage Center?

Participants in the Transitional Rehabilitation Program at Courage Center Golden Valley live on site during intensive rehabilitation, which usually lasts a few months. 

8. Do volunteers receive a discount on Courage Center programs?

There are some aquatics and fitness programs that offer a price reduction ot volunteers. To qualify, you must be volunteering once a week.

9. What volunteer opportunities do you have?

All our open volunteer opportunities are listed on the website according to location.

10. Do volunteers receive parking reimbursement?

There is no charge to park in a Courage Center parking lot.
